Updating an Event Template and Future Events Based on that Template

If you use RSVPMaker to manage a recurring event such as a monthly webinar or a the meeting of an organization where the content of the event is a boilerplate agenda, you can generate that series of events with an RSVPMaker Event Template. Then, if you change your webinar marketing content or your boilerplate agenda, you can use the template to update all the events in that series.

Here’s how.

Method 1: Edit the Template First

If you view any event on the front end of the website, assuming you have the proper editing rights Edit Template will be one of the options displayed on the black menu bar at the top of the screen.

Following that link will open the template document in the editor. You can then edit the event template as needed.

When you are finished with your changes and save the document, you should see a prompt to visit the Create / Update screen, which allows you to create and update future events using the new template as a model.

The Create / Update screen will show a list of current and projected events that you can apply the template to. You can use “check all” to indicate you want all of the events updated or check individual events to update. Then click Add/Update from Template.

Method 2: Update the Event First, Then The Template

Alternatively, you can start with the latest version of the event where you may have improved the marketing content and changed the pricing or other parameters.

When viewing that event on the front end of the website, you can follow the Update Template Based on Event administrator’s menu item link.

You will be prompted to confirm that you want to overwrite the current template.

If you click to confirm, the Create / Update page will reload, giving you the option of following the Create / Update process as described above to update existing events and add projected dates.

The Create / Update page can also be accessed from the administrator’s dashboard and includes a number of utilities for working with event templates, including switching the template applied to a specific event or creating a new template based on the content of an individual event.
